Beastly Poster

Beastly

In this movie, they’ve basically taken the Disney movie ‘Beauty and the Beast’ and made it into a modern live action film. I don’t think this film actually has any affiliation with Disney though (want to make sure I don’t get sued by Disney). They are pretty close to the same story line though.

A wealthy, handsome, arrogant, and all around stuck-up  guy named Kyle (played by Alex Pettyfer) invites a Goth classmate Kendra (Mary-Kate Olsen) to a school dance. After ditching Kendra and mocking her in front of the school by calling her ugly, Kendra places a curse on Kyle to make him as ugly on the outside as the inside. After confronting Kendra, she informs him that the only way to reverse the curse is to find someone that will love him as he is.

Kyle’s dad can’t stand the sight of his son so he sends him to Brooklyn to live with a house keeper (LisaGay Hamilton) and a blind tutor (Neil Patrick Harris). Kyle stumbles upon a drug addict in the act of killing a threatening dealer. Seizing the opportunity, Kyle promises the addicts daughter will be safe if she lives with Kyle at his home.

The plot of this movie sounds corny on paper but the trailer doesn’t look half bad. At the beginning of the trailer all I could really think about was “Great, here is another teen movie that is going to suck and the only people who are going to enjoy this is teenage girls.” but as the trailer went on I really started to like what I was seeing.

The fact that Neil Patrick Harris is in it, is a plus (‘How I Met Your Mother’ is awesome) and for the rest of the cast they got some not-so-familiar faces which I think was a smart choice… the actors in the trailer seem to play their own parts very well (although Mary-Kate looks creepy). All-in-all I could see this being a good movie… not a pay to see in theaters movie but a good movie to check out later on.

Umm, I’d say you’re wrong. It’s definitely a movie I’d pay to see. With all the sequel crap coming out this summer, that is NOT going to appeal to me, I’m looking forward to this movie, along with Inception. This movie looks like it’s VERY well done, with beautiful photography and great symbolism. The cast is great-looking too.

Not a bad point, Beastly comes out in July 30. As far as the month of July is concerned, there is a lot of good movies coming out and most people can’t aford to see them all. You have The Last Airbender, Despicable Me, Predators, Inception, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, Dinner for Schmucks and for August we have The Other Guys, and The Expendables. So Beastly is in the middle of a swarm of good movies, Beastly is looking really good but I don’t think its going to be able to measure up to most of these. I am really looking forward to seeing this on DVD/Blu-ray though.
