Sorcerer's Apprentice

The Sorcerer’s Apprentice

I love fantasy movies (and books) where a person starts off being an average person and then rises to become a legend, all the while getting mixed up in a world of mysticism. For all you other fantasy (I hate the word ‘fantasy’, sounds to girly) fans out there, this is definetely one movie you will want to check out.

The Sorcerer’s apprentice originally started off as a poem written by an Englishman by the name of Goethe in 1797. However ‘The Sorcerer’s Apprentice’ is most famous for the Disney reprensentation of it in Fantasia about a sorverer’s apprentice that is left alone to do chores while the sorcerer is away. The apprentice decides to get his chores done faster by doing a little bit of magic. So he uses magic that he is not fully trained in and bewitches a broom to mop the floor for him. Sooen enough he realizes he cant make it stop. While the floor is filling up with water the apprentice chops the mop into pieces only to find that the chopped pieces become smaller mops and move even faster. This keeps up until the master sorcerer comes and puts an end to the enchantment.

While the movie is only loosely based off of this, I figured some of you would like to know a little of the backstory. In this movie though you have Balthazar Blake (Nicolas Cage), a very powerful sorcerer who searches the globe until he finds Dave Stutler (Jay Baruchel) to be his apprentice. Knowing that there is an evil force ready to kill them, Balthazar doesn’t have long to teach Dave before his skill as  a sorcerer will be tested in the most extreme conditions. All the while Dave is having a hard time adjusting to the fact that he can wield the forces of magic. He must use all of his might to surive his training, save the city, and hopefully get the girl.
