Planet 51

Watched Planet 51

Dwayne Johnson, you slick actor you. First you come out with an awesome movie like ‘The Rundown’, then release crap like ‘Escape to Witch Moutain’ and now you’ve done another 180 with this not-so-bad ‘Planet 51′. I may be coming from a biast point of view since I love Dreamworks, Pixar, and pretty much any animated movies but this movie was actually pretty good. The only real problem with the movie is that evey time I heard Dwayne Johnson’s character talk I couldn’t help but think “Thats no astronaut… thats Dwayne Johnson”. Dwayne seemed to play this role extremely well, heres a role where Dwayne has to voice act a bunch of lines complimenting himself and talking about how awesome he thinks he is, not that big of a stretch.

Just to give you a quick run-through of the movie for anyone who hasn’t seen it or don’t even know what I am talking about. This movie is about an American astronaut that somehow goes billions of miles to an alien planet thinking its uninhabited but really there is a thriving civilization there. This alien race is in the era equivalent to our 50′s era and they seemed to be obsessed with alien brain-eating zombie movies. One kid finds the astronaut and tries to get him back to his space ship before the government can catch the American for experimentation… basically just imagine the movie ‘E.T.’ but in reverse.

Anyway, this is a fairly good movie, the humor level was a little higher then I thought it was going to be and I especially liked the subtle ‘Star Wars’ jokes. I’m trying to look at this from a third party point of view to try and see if the over-all people would enjoy this movie but I such a hardcore animated movie fan that its a little difficult for me. Of course all the kids are going to love this movie and if you tend to like the average animated movie that comes out then I definitely suggest going for this movie. If the idea of watching another movie that Dwayne’s involved with is too much for you to bare then this may not be the movie for you.
